Much like the Academy Awards, the MEETING PROFESSIONALS INTERNATIONAL (MPI) SOUTH FLORIDA CHAPTER’S “AWARDS AND RECOGNITION GALA” is THE industry event to attend for the “who’s who” in the professional events world. On June 19th, 2014 the stage was set in “THE GALLERY OF AMAZING THINGS” (located in Dania Beach, near Hollywood, Florida) – fitting considering all of the “amazing” people who were brushing elbows and buzzing around with cocktails in hand that evening. The sold out event with over 150 attendees unfolded throughout the unique space and every guest anticipated and gossiped about who the prestigious group of winners would be.

Each coveted award is voted on by all members of MPI South Florida. Having an award presented by your peers makes this an ultra-special moment for the chosen recipients. What a nice way to “pat” each other on the back and celebrate the accomplishments and contributions to the events industry.
The last award of the evening to be announced is the “South Florida MPI Planner of the Year.” This award indicates an all-encompassing appreciation from the entire South Florida MPI community to the member who has gone above and beyond to showcase his or her extensive skills and extraordinary dedication to their trade. As the winner was announced and the roar of the applause began, the only person later surprised by the name receiving this enormous honor was the winner herself:
Hillary Smith, CMP, CSEP
In true form, Smith was out of town on business and unable to attend the gala. As her phone began to “blow up” with a series of “Congratulations!” text messages, Smith was confused. After hearing the news, she was overjoyed and humbled at this great honor. Though Smith was unable to personally accept the award, she said the announcement of this moment was no less moving by phone.
“I had no idea I was even nominated! To know that my peers feel this way about me and my work is what makes this an especially proud and moving moment.”
Smith is one of the founding partners of KONCEPT EVENTS. Smith dedicates herself tirelessly to putting KE’s brand signature “touch” on every single event produced.
The KE team was overjoyed but not at all surprised by the announcement of Smith’s award. Each and every member of the staff is accustomed to Smith’s extraordinary abilities and is regularly inspired by her leadership. Her trophy will sit in a place of honor in the new 11,000 sq. ft. KE office, set to open in 2015.
There is no question that the KE brand is cemented into its place in the meeting and event world and continues to celebrate growth and success. The entire KE team agrees it is thrilling that one of the brand’s leaders has been recognized for her talents outside of the KE walls.
