Usually when you hear “dog’s day” you know it was a “ruff” one. In this instance…there are no truer words!
In honor of “TAKE YOUR DOG TO WORK DAY” (#TYDTWD) KONCEPT EVENTS invited all employees to bring their four legged friends to the office on Friday June 20, 2014. The purpose of this national event is to raise awareness surrounding canine adoption and to recognize the value these wonderful friends bring to our lives. KE couldn’t wait to get behind this! KE is an organization with a heavy focus on work/life balance. So this special event aligned well with the brand’s philosophy. In fact, an average office day often includes a sweet, furry face! Staff members take turns bringing in their pups on different days of the work week.
#TYDTWD began with a pleasant surprise even before the official day of the event. On the Thursday before the event, there was a phone call from a journalist with the MIAMI HERALD. A list of officially registered participants had been circulated to national media. The MIAMI HERALD reached out to KE’s DIRECTOR OF MARKETING, CHRISTINA SEARS, regarding the organization’s views on a pet friendly office environment.
“The company is in support of a healthy work-life balance, and our four-legged friends are part of that balance.”
The Miami Herald, loved what Sears had to say and used the KE brand as a major source for their feature news article on the brand’s support of the holiday.
The excitement continued on the day of the event itself when a phone call from FOX NEWS came in at the last minute. They had seen the news release and wanted to send a reporter and crew to film at the KE offices! The special guests of the day were evidently a huge hit!
FOX News joined the KE team for a significant portion of #TYDTWD and really got to know the team and their lovable dogs. On the evening of #TYDTWD, a heart-warming special, highlighting the four-legged guests and their owners aired during prime time news. The buzz over the importance of this day had spread and KE was a proud advocate!
The most important part of this day? The pups of course! So here are some important things KE feels you should know about having a pet friendly environment:
- KE staffers make sure to empty their waste baskets regularly before any furry pals visit (everyone is forewarned via an all staff email any time a pup is coming in). This is to avoid any mischievous friends stumbling onto something harmful.
- Any time multiple pups are in attendance at the office (which is generally avoided), they are introduced to each other slowly and in a non-threatening way. All toys are picked up so that there is no risk of fighting and leashes are slowly removed after owners have guided their dogs into calmly meeting each other and demonstrated mutual affection for both.
- Each dog had their own water bowl and special toys or blankets from home to make them feel at ease. But items were monitored to make sure no pups got possessive.
The day was a huge success and as SENIOR PROGRAM MANAGER, COURTNEY LOHMANN put it
“It was a great way to build in some breaks in the office day, get to know your colleagues and improve office morale.”
