THINK MAGAZINE recently profiled the new generation of entrepreneurial leaders in South Florida. Playing off their youth, the concept behind the article and photo shoot mimicked the iconic 80’s movie, “THE BREAKFAST CLUB.” Much like the characters, on the surface, these four coming of age individuals appear to have nothing in common. However, this local “brat pack” all share something extraordinary – the drive, energy, ingenuity and passion it takes to become architects of their own future. Despite their age and “new school” approach, each of them are proving that there is a lot they can teach us about business – even if most of them were born around the time the film was first released.
Far apart from her “basket case” character played by ALLY SHEEDY, KONCEPT EVENTS OWNER-PARTNER, HILLARY SMITH, CMP, CSEP relies heavily on her internal intuition and confidence to make most business decisions. It was no shock when THINK MAGAZINE approached Smith with the idea of including her in their spread focused on the new talent in Broward. Clearly Smith’s “gut” seems to be on point as this out-spoken, short-haired, self-proclaimed “blonde tornado” has a lot to contribute. This year alone, in addition to having the honor of being included in such an elite group of young entrepreneurs, Smith was named Meeting Professionals International “Planner of the Year, 2013-2014,” for South Florida and along with OWNER-PARTNER, ANGIE NELSON, recently purchased an 11,000 sq. ft. office building to make room for their ever-growing team and expanding inventory.
The shoot was a fun opportunity for Smith to showcase her personal style and share, in her own words, on “how far we’ve come.” Smith is known for adding her personal touch to everything she does whether that’s her fashion style or her events. This is one of the things Smith credits with turning her business into a success. She always makes sure the organization stays true to the brand and offers clients the most progressive concepts and options so that their events stand out (much like Smith). Honored to share the spotlight with this group of young entrepreneurs, Smith is proud of what she has accomplished in such a relatively short time.
Smith on Koncept Events’ success: “In the words of one my favorite rappers, DRAKE, ‘We started from the bottom, now we here,’ (yes, shake your head and roll your eyes at me, I don’t care – I love hip hop).”
