James Brown wrote the famous lyrics “It’s a man’s, man’s, man’s world…but it would be nothing, nothing without a woman or a girl.”
KONCEPT EVENTS WAREHOUSE MANAGER, CRAIG KALPAKIAN, knows all too well the value of women in his “man’s world.” Working for an organization founded and predominately operated by women, Kalpakian spends most of his days among the fairer sex. And according to him – it has shaped him in a BIG way…and we KE women would like to infer that maybe that’s not so bad.
It’s common place in the KE office to recognize our team’s life milestones. The KE culture is rooted in a familial nature and the entire team is very supportive of one another. We are no strangers to the office bridal shower, baby shower….well, you name it – if it can be “showered” we’ve celebrated it for our team (after all we ARE an events company). With Kalpakian’s pending nuptials, the team at KE wanted to take the time to acknowledge this moment in Kalpakian’s life and explore what it was like to approach this life event – from the man’s perspective. In Kalpakian’s case, there were no squeals at the sight of a diamond engagement ring, no discussions of finding the perfect dress, etc…so it got the KE crew curious – what is a man’s world like as you take next steps among an office full of women?
The results were an insightful understanding of our beloved Mr. Kalpakian, a deepened appreciation for his testosterone tinged contributions to our KE culture, and you guessed it – one heck of a “man shower” celebration!
- Kalpakian is a Sagittarius
- This guy had no female siblings (karma came knocking with 22 KE “sisters”)
- His favorite music is rock music…which he listens to while making his homemade beef jerky
- When he gets time to kick back you can find a fishing pole in his hands
So now that you have the hard facts, KE asked Kalpakian how he handles an office full of estrogen!
“I try not to notice most of the time what it’s like to be the only guy…”
But if he did notice…here is what he sees:
Q: What’s it like working in an office full of women?
A: It helps me to stay in shape. Seeing the girls eating health food for lunch reminds me to eat more salad.
Q: What’s the best thing about working in an office of women?
A: I get almost unlimited creative freedom when it comes to large “manly” projects.
Q: What’s the toughest thing about working in an office of women?
A: I know way too much about what being pregnant is like and I can’t get away with leaving the seat up.
Q: What is the job you think you do the most at KE because you’re a man?
A: I’m always on critter removal duty (lizards, birds, frogs, etc…)
FROM THE LADIES PERSPECTIVE
The KE team feels lucky to have Kalpakian because he is a handy, resourceful, out-of-the-box thinker, who is the “go-to” for anything production related. Need a solution to a “green-friendly” centerpiece? Ask Kalpakian. Dreamt up “Alice in Wonderland” fantasy world-style lounge furniture accents? Kalpakian’s on it!
Most men would go crazy with 1 woman’s requests, but Kalpakian remains surprisingly calm, cool and collected with all 22 women chirping at him-every day (one of the skills he cites having developed at KE and that contributed to him winning over his beautiful bride-to-be).
So with a little bit of insight, the KE team pulled off a man shower that not only helped Kalpakian feel like “one of the guys”…but maybe just this once – the gals let the “seat up” thing slide.
The Craig Kalpakian “ManShower.”
After an afternoon of craft beer, spicy wings, and BBQ – the KE team found their inner “dude.” And for one day – Kalpakian truly was living in a man’s world.
